CHIN SURGERY

Surgery for the Chin

The chin is a prominent part of the human face. A man’s chin should be broad and strong while a woman’s should be more rounded and narrow. The surgery can make use of silicone and the transference of fat. How Chin Surgery is Done Chin surgery is done in 2 different ways. The first method is to have the cut on the inside of the mouth. The surgeon will make an incision between the gums and lips to insert the silicone. This insures that no scar will be visible. The other method is to have the incision made under the chin. This method actually has a better chance of avoiding infection and injury to the muscles or nerves, though there will be a 2 to 3 cm scary under your chin. The three materials that are regularly used are:

  1. Silicone
  2. Gortex
  3. Medpore

The duration of the procedure is between 30 and 45 minutes without anesthesia and you will be able to return home immediately after the surgery is complete. Post-surgery, it is recommended that you take a couple weeks to rest and recuperate. There may be some tightness felt around the wound but that will disappear after the first week. If the procedure done is the one on the inside of the mouth, the patient will need to use antibacterial mouthwashes during the first week of rest to avoid the risk of infection. For the other method, under the chin, patients should keep the wound dry for 2 to 3 days after the surgery. Only soft foods should be consumed to prevent the risk of damage. Follow your doctor’s instructions and take the recommended medications to reduce pain and swelling.   Medical consultations are free of charge.
